Understanding the Love Chapter

1 Corinthian 13:4
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

1 Corinthian 13:4 is one of the favorite verse used in wedding.
In marriage, we say love another person until death. People say love is a decision you make. It is a commitment. Others say it is the best you give to another person.

Actually, love is none of those. It is not something you decide to give to someone. You see, we the natural man has no love inside of us. We should not be so presumptuous to think we are loving people or that we can will ourselves to have love. Love only comes from God.

If you read 1 Corinthian 13 carefully, you will see that love is not natural for man. It is a supernatural attribute. Love is not envy or self-seeking sets itself above any human capability. You like someone, and when someone rejects you, you get upset. That is normal, but is not love. The verse said love is not self-seeking. That too is not normal. The world say you must love yourself before you love other. The world puts self ahead of others. True love put the other person first. That too is un-natural. The part that said love “rejoices with the truth” by definition means it is only from God. God is the truth.

1 John 4:7

“Dear friends, let us love one another,a for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of Godb and knows God”

Love is from God. It is God who grants us to love thru his Holy Spirit. As we do God’s will, he gives us love.
