4X4 Supply Source

Bob owns Supplee 4WD Enterprises in Oklahoma and is turning into one of
the newsgroup's favorite guys to buy 4x4 stuff from.  You can reach him
at 405-799-8977 or supplee@ionet.net.  The reason many of us like him is
because he's fast to get us the gear, totally honest (has even shipped
us gear before receiving the money at times), and usually has the best
prices that include shipping... and he'll give you his best price up
front with no need to negotiate with him.  A very nice guy, we even
tried to get him to drive his CJ out here for our upcoming Death Valley
run but he can't leave his business that long.  Oh... Bob doesn't have a
catalog or website yet... it's just a small 4x4 shop.

From: "Woodworth, Eric" <eric.woodworth@sap.com>
Subject: RE: Looking for  Off Road shops in the Roseville CA area.

Foothill Off-Road in Auburn does good work.  Very close to Roseville.
Instead of spending the $'s on the Fabtech, have them swap in a Dana 44.

Con-ferr catalog

I just got in the mail a Con-ferr catalog I ordered. They've got some cool

stuff for toyotas, and a lot more than their items carried in the Downey

and NWOR catalogs. One thing I noticed that was really cool is a combo

pre-runner grilleguard with winch mount for solid-axle pickups. They've

also got a variety of nice bumpers that are inexpensive, and the end caps

are sealed welded steel, so I suspect they are far more rust resistant then

the Smittys.

They also have lots of inexpensive brackets and so forth; things like 2"

receiver hitch receptacles you can bolt or weld to another bumper, weld-on

shock mounting brackets, blitz can carriers, push plates/pads, and so

forth.

One thing that was kinda weird though is that the catalog is dated 1992(!).

It was $5 and the address is 123-211 South Front St., Burbank, CA

91502-1983

Brake Lines

From: Thom Singer <cbovee@dock.net>

Subject: Re: Rear brake line

At one point earlier in the year I interviewed with Goodridge

Performance Plumbing. During the time I was there I got the low down on

this DOT issue. The issue is indeed the "hard bend near fitting" test.

In the 2 other tests braided stainless hose significantly outperforms

std. hose. The bend test looks like this: hold a fitting in each hand.

Form an 'S' curve in the hose keeping the holes in the fittings

parallel. Hold one hand steady while imitating a hand crank with the

other hand. How many revolutions until failure ? S.S. work hardens if

the bend is too tight, which is why the Earl's DOT legal hoses have

those funny looking spring thingies on them. I do like the Goodridge

design better, and no I didn't take the job.

The curious thing is that in the US, the manufacturer certifies that the

hose passes the test. The German TUV uses the US rules (on hoses anyway)

verbatim, but THEY certify the hose. So if a product passes TUV testing,

it's automatically US legal.

My opinion is worth what you're paying for it.

Driveshaft

Subject: RE: Driveshaft Wanted

I just order a rear driveshaft for my 87 turbo pickup from mountain

driveline (520) 532-8452. All build using spicer component and have twice

longer spline length. My driveshaft is quire rare. Used one range from

$125-150 with unknown u-joint condition. I paid $170 for mine.

Your might be more expensive since you have a double cardan joint.

Other source is Gloekco (800) 845-6326 they want $195 for mine. And using

only 1.5 in longer than stock spline length.

GDS (618) 288-7470 also make custom driveshaft

Six states are the first into the mail order driveshaft but they could not

give me a specific quote and only say the worst case is $275.
